A short period of forced writing, where you commit to writing no matter how much you do not feel like working, can often get you over the motivational hump and lead to a productive writing session.

No matter how detailed your action plan and timelines or how inspired you felt the night before, when you wake up in the morning you may feel like a thick fog of apathy rolled in during your sleep. Most of my hobbies take more energy than i have after a long workday (cooking) or are hard to balance with my childcare duties (hiking, playing music) or aren't great for my wallet and waist (food and booze).
Leave revision for later , even if some of bolker's advice repeats lessons we've heard since at least our undergrad days--not to mention out of date cultural totems, like answering machines--this is a useful book to have around. It's most helpful in its suggestions about how to cultivate and organize your thought process by writing.
